To see how far we have come in terms of musical composition is truly astounding to me. Seeing the progression from only being able to make beautiful sounds from instruments through their players to now being able to produce those same sounds electronically is really eye opening for me. I would even go so far as to argue that composers which use technology to make musical pieces are just as much musicians as a guitarist or pianist with the only difference being this musician’s instrument consists of electrical impulses and computer screens.

Here’s an article describing the complexities of electronic music and why I believe electronic music is an instrument in and of itself:

I absolutely agree. Music is all about communicating an emotion to your audience. While a trained pianist or guitarist has specific skills to convey their desired emotion(s), a composer of electronic music has a different set of skills to do the same thing. Also, there is a gray area where instrumentalists compose and use backing tracks of electronic music in a live, acoustic setting.

Here’s a video where multi-instrumentalist and YouTuber Adam Neely talks about this a little:

Electronic music is a very interesting wave in the music industry and had a significant impact on today’s modern pop music. This is another example of how all music influences each other to get it where it is today. personally, it was surprising to me how early electronic music started given technologies circumstances.

I tend to listen to electronic music when I work out because I feel like it can keep you upbeat and energized. The popular artists in the 1960s brought popularity among electronic music when they used electronic instruments to enhance their music and make it even better. The Beatles and The Beach Boys helped bring a rise to electronic music with their massive fanbase. Eventually, electronic instruments and machines ended up being used in all types of genres including hip-hop producing different fusion genres such as trip-hop or electronic rock.

I have to say, I love electric music and have always been a fan of it. From electric instruments to electric music songs- they have all been pleasing to my ears as long as I can remember. I never knew that it’s history originated back in the early 1920’s! It is so interesting to think that they had the potential to make this music that had gotten popular from the 70’s to now! I could not imagine music without electric instruments or even within the genre of electric music. I can hear it incorporated into different genres too! It is a universal sound that is enjoyed by many. Here is more on electric music:

Electronic music is one of the few genres of music that makes you want to get on your feet and just dance. When it first started getting popular in the 1970s and 1980s, it introduced the world to devices such as synthesizers and drum machines. Those devices led to the emergence of one of the most popular subgenres of music today – EDM. I would say that without the emergence of electronic music, the music industry today wouldn’t have thrived as much as it has.
Below is an article mentioning why EDM is the future of entertainment:

For the genre of electronic music, I’ve learned it comes from different sources. Different sounds are recorded on tape and then it is edited and condensed into one form. It is actually starting to be considered as computer music. Its early beginnings originated in the 19th century, and the early practices were further expanded on in the period before World War II. Electronic organs replaced musical instruments as the standard fare for this genre. It went hand in hand with tape recording and electronic studios were eventually invented. This genre of music is fascinating because it’s a beloved music genre today, and it seems as though it continues to expand.

Electronic Music has become the music for today’s mainstream market. Different ways of ectronic music have been around since the end of the 19th century, and has been evovling all over the world since then. Staringing in the 1970s, electroninc music has had a major influence on popular music. I have attatched a link that gives details on the history of this music.

While I am not the biggest fan of electronic music (mainly theramins and oscillators), it is interesting how these instruments paved the way for musicians to really be 100% in control of the sounds they produce. Electronic musical instruments first hit the scene in the mid 1900’s and since then countries all over the world took this new technology and made it their own. In a very short expanse of time a myriad of synthesizers such as the Moog, drum machines such as the Korg, and frequency modulation synthesizers lead to the creation of all new sounds. The wikipedia page says that the “MIDI and the development of digital audio made the development of purely electronic sounds much easier.” This definitely seems to be the case. In the link below information on the different types of Moog modules for sale are listed with their capabilities.

When we think about electronic music, many of us never even thought about the fact that two main distinctions can be made in regards to the instruments used. Usually, we classify electronic music as someone using an electric guitar and nothing more but in reality, electronic music is a work of art that led to the creation of multiple different genres. Without electronic music, genres such as hip-hop would either have failed or never came into existence.

Electronic music is now a very common form of music that became vastly listened to in the 1970’s. Electronic music opened the doors of artistic creation to new genres like retrorocket, disco, new wave and synth-pop. Now electronic music is vastly used and few mainstream songs do not have some form of electronic recording.

The Wikipedia article gave me a ton of information about the music world and especially the electronic music world, which was very interesting and honestly super cool. I did learn that electronic devices were first made during the end of the 19th century, which started it all. The one thing that comes to my head when thinking about electronic music is an artist named “Skrillex” which is a very famous artist who produces amazing electronic music. He currently does remixes with very famous artists and makes a good amount of money. Below I attached a link on how Skrillex changed the music world.

I find it incredibly interesting how electronic music as far back as the 70’s was a niche genre that wasn’t used to it’s full potential until much later and is now a mainstay in modern contemporary pop music. It has even created it’s own genre in itself which is very fascinating and I love reading about it. This article and the article attached are very good at displaying these points made.

Electronic music has a different sound, you can tell the difference when listening to the different forms of music. When producing electronic music they do not use sound-producing mechanisms. All the music is produced with electronic sounds and can all be made through a computer. The first form of a electronic device that could play music wasn’t invented until the end of the 19th century. With this electronic music is a little bit newer to the music industry compared to other forms. Here is a link showing some of the top electronic made albums/songs of 2018:

When you first search for electronic music they give you a list of about 40 or so electronic songs and then different articles and videos. Some of the videos are electronic music to listen to when you need to concentrate or study and others are guides to electronic music. When I think of electronic music it first goes to electronic dance music rather than calming music. From what I have learned from the wiki article linked electronic music has many more genres than I had realized. Here is a link to an article on the history of electronic dance music.

After reading this article, I was surprised to find out when electronic music was first introduced. I had no idea that electronic music was introduced so early in time. However, the early sounds of electronic music were not to what they are now a day obviously, but it was still fascinating finding out where it all started. With that being said, in my opinion, I think electronic music picked up and become increasingly popular in the 1990s and early 2000s. Therefore, I have attached a video of the top classical electronic songs made during that time. Most of the songs in the video are still very popular songs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrhM7TlSJc4

The history of electronic music is really interesting. Electronic music dates back to the invention of the Moog synthesizer, but there are other things that gave birth to electronic music. Without these building blocks there may not be electronic as we know it. The first is the theremin. This was an important innovation, because it generated electromagnetic fields that produced sound. The pitch would change depending on where the user would wave their hand. The other building block for electronic music was the movement called “musique concrete”. This movement spurred the popularity of electronic music. Specifically, it involved recording and editing pre-recorded music on shellac and then other materials such as magnetic strips to splice and edit music together using mixers.

I don’t know much about electronic music, so reading the article was really cool. It was very interesting to learn that it had its start so early. At the beginning of the twentieth century, composers started looking for a new kind of sound, and so electronic music was born. It was also interesting to see that the earliest electronic music was used in concert pieces and movie and TV scores. Electronic music has changed so much and has become so much more popular, so it was cool to read about its roots.

I found it interesting to see when electronic music was first produced considering its growth in popularity in this generation. The first time I was exposed to electronic dance music came when the shuffling and dub step, specifically LMFAO and the ‘party rock anthem.’ It was in a way, taboo within my school to listen to electronic or at the time, what we labeled as techno, but I became interested, as I have become known. I have since fell in love with the art of making music with sounds and machines, I’ve expanded my taste of music in part due to my intuition to find something different, and because of my new found knowledge of the medium. Like I said, when I first listened to EDM, it was mostly Skrillex or David Guerra, then I went to dance club and festivals and was introduced to hard style and trap, which sounds sort of like typical EDM, but with a faster and harder beat, it shows how music will evolve in any circumstance, and we are here to see it and experience it first hand.

Electronic Musicians are a different breed than traditional musicians in my opinion. Both groups of musicians need similar abilities: rhythm, creativity, a trained ear, etc. That being said, I’ve been playing music for about 10 years and know my way around most instruments. I’ve tried to create electronic music, I have all sorts of plug-ins and samples but for the life of me I just can’t seem to make music in that way. With technology these days, someone with a good ear and no instrumental experience can get on a computer and piece together complex music with no real training. The industry seems to frown on this however I think it’s fantastic. People of all races, religions, and cultures, regardless of economic status can piece together great music and become passionate about music with nothing more than a computer. Music creation is becoming more and more accessible, leading to a more diverse community of content creators.

The implementation of electric music is astonishing. The fact that this was first introduced in the late 1800’s-early 1900’s is surprising to me. Its crazy to see this take in music because its opened up a variety of implementations. While the “Electric” style and beats still makes ups genre, its now being used to make other kinds of music because now any kind of instrument that we can think of can be reproduced digitally. This saddens me though because classical musicians will eventually be outdated due to electric music.

When I first read the title of this blog “electronic music” I was thinking more of a EDM focused article, rather than the history behind electric instruments and amplification. However, it was a pleasant surprise because truthfully had no clue that electronic music or electric instruments dated back that far. By adding electronics to instruments it truly changed the business, because very rarely are stringed acoustic instruments expressed in modern music. Even classical music has had electronics added to the scene completely changing capabilities of orchestras.

Electronic music is underrated. Without the innovation of electronic music and the acceptance of DAWS and midi programmed arrangments, we wouldn’t have any of the music that’s currently on our phones and on the radio. Electronic music has this stigma of being just party music and having only a rave type appeal. This is true but there is a lot of innovation between electronic music and other genres that have transformed music entirely. For instance, the use of auto-tune and vocoding was predominately used in electronic music like in Giorgio Moroder’s “e=mc2”. Which influenced daft punk to also use a vocoder in their music which influenced Kanye West to sample daft punk and implement auto-tune into his 4th album 808’s and heartbreak.

As a fan of EDM music, this article was a very interesting read. I was unaware how early electronic music gained traction in the music industry as I was under the influence that it was extremely recent. Also, I have experience with creating EDM music using DAW’s and other digital instruments on the computer. I mostly use synthesizers and samples for the creation of my music which is directly connected to this article. It is amazing to me how far we have come in music technology in such a short amount of time. Almost anyone can access tools to create music in their own home using DAW’s and other electronic plugins.

It’s amazing that as early as the 19th century they already had curious minds looking into “non-musical” sounds. The phenomenon of electronic music ever so gradually grew over time that once it exploded in recent years many were surprised and probably thought it wouldn’t be popular. Nowadays people like myself are lining up for these EDM raves and festivals, and even pop culture and rap is impacted by this genre now. It is the music of the future, no doubt. There’s also any kind of EDM sub-genre you can think of, from dubstep to house to hardstyle to even indie, the possibilities are endless. In a way, electronic music isn’t the typical melody you would expect to hear, but it’s the appreciation for it that grows over time.

It surprised me that electronic music became popular because of the affordability of the equipment. With the basic equipment consisting of MIDI and a DAW, this form of music production is the most cost affective. It allows the user to create and edit content while on. budget. The affordability of this equipment allowed a diverse group of people to produce music, thus creating the diverse music genre of electronic music that we know today. Even today, the MIDI controllers can start at as low as $55, and still maintain the quality of expensive piece of equipment. Here’s more on the affordability of electronic music equipment:

Personally, I have always thought about electronic music as something more modern in new. I never knew that it truly started out around the 1920’s-1930’s. Of course it was no where near as advanced then as it is now, it’s still cool to think that it’s been around that long. It’s also cool that back then people were using electroacoustic tape to mix and mash sounds much like a DJ would today. I never would’ve expected that. Also, seeing electronic music go from culture to culture and popping up in different countries is very interesting to me.

The link below is just a video of electronic music I found from the 1940’s. It reminds me a lot of like old video games or the type of music you might hear on an old Mickey Mouse cartoon.

Although electronic music seems to be a modern day discovery, electronic music was first created at the end of the 19th century and used shortly after by some innovative Italians who began to experiment with the sounds that can be created. Thanks to the creation of MIDI later on, the evolution of electronic music allowed for sequencers and drum machines to be made easier. This article really allowed for me to realize how much goes into the creation of electronic sounds and the artistry is just as impressive even though it isn’t created with physical musical instruments. Since the invention of the theremin, it is impressive to see how the world of electronic music has advanced throughout time. Big names in music such as The Beatles and Pink Floyd incorporated synthesizers into their music. Inventions such as the MIDI and the Drum Machine have been able to make music much easier to create and edit. A whole genre of music, Electronic Dance Music, couldn’t have existed without these kinds of technologies being innovated and improved throughout the years.

While electronic music isn’t personally something I indulge in, it’s interesting to see the progression of the genre from the 70’s to now. With the electronic keyboard, synthesizers, and other electronic instruments becoming more mainstream in the early 90’s, bands like Daft Punk and Nine Inch Nails blew up in popularity. This new wave of music carried into the 2000’s, with the most popular band in the electronic genre of this century, Skrillex. The tone and feeling of these bands evolved into bands in the new wave genre with their own unique sounds and feeling.

I have a few electronic music songs in my library and my playlists. There is something about electronic music that puts you in a certain mood. Electronic music has become super popular as the years go on. It seems like nowadays, there is some sort of electronic element to almost every song being produced. Even in different countries, electronic music is becoming a mainstream music genre. It was interesting to read about how electro-music evolved over time. It is very intriguing how the actual production of electronic sounds were first produced through the merge of makeshift machines. This new form of music rose interest of musicians who were interested in finding new sounds in unconventional ways. It is very mind-blowing the fact that tech moved so far to the point where the machines which produce sounds and content for that Electronic genre of music now take a fraction of the space, musical knowledge, and most importantly budget. This article shed a special light on the fact that if it wasn’t for those strange bulky machines and awkward primitive sounds from the early years of electronic music most of hip hop, pop, r n’ b, rap and trap music wouldn’t have existed today.

With the emergence of electronic sounds and ways to create music digitally it is no surprise to see the rise of many genres over the years. In the past, music was only played at concert halls or in clubs and bars but with the rise of electronics, artists were now allowed to perform for very large crowds. For example, in the mid 1900’s you saw the rise of festivals like Woodstock which has carried on into today in well known festivals like ACL, Coachella, and EDC. Artists can now combine their music with effects to enhance their performances such as mixing their sounds with lights and smoke. This is a very popular trend in EDM culture and one that draws more people into the culture year after year.

The history of electronic music is fascinating. Giving us tons of iconic artist such as Skrillex, Daft Punk, Avicii etc. The one thing that electronic music has blessed us with is in video games. The music in . nintendo games were mesmerizing for its time and are still iconic to this day. Composers such as Hajime Hiraswa and Koji Kondo were the kings of that era and have inspired others to this day.

I’m not really a fan of electronic music. While some notions say that having more tools at one’s disposal allows for a greater degree of freedom of creation, I’ve observed the opposite in almost every respect. Creativity is most fruitful when the boundaries of the process are very defined and the imagi nation of the user can expand beyond them. When the opportunities are boundless, imagination sits isolated in the center of its enormity, unmoving. People involved in electronic music themselves say that more physical devices are preferable in the creation process rather than computers and digital media. Connecting with the instrument physically lets one have a much more personal knowledge of its abilities and limits. I backup these ideas by saying that a lot of EDM and other electronic music sounds very similar across artists, compared to the vast complexities of R&B, Jazz, R&R, and classical styles.

I think it is quite incredible how the invention of the first synthesizers became the building block to electronic music which has greatly influenced our society. one way these early machines have impacted our society was through films. Two of the earliest electronic instruments, the theremin, and the Ondes Martinot, both creating high wavering pitches, were used in many early films. Such as Hitchcock’s 1945 psychoanalytical movie Spellbound which featured a score by Miklós Rózsa alongside sets for its dream sequence by Salvador Dali. Rózsa was a pioneer of the theremin and Spellbound was the first major film to feature it.

Electronic Music is also one of the main genres soundtracks have in movies like Action, Adventure, and especially Sci-Fi.

Love it or hate it electronic music has had a profound impact on the music industry. It can be extremely complicated to create using rooms full of synthesizers and pre-recorded sounds. It can also be simple to create your own music using smartphone applications like Apple’s Garage Band. Occasionally when I get bored I mess around with the app to create my own short beats using pre-recorded loops. With just a couple loops anyway can create a halfway decent beat for a song.

One of my favorite artists, Charlie Puth, uses a lot of electronic music to produces his songs. He is a very talented musician, but still uses electronics to his advantage and it awesome. Here’s a cool video showing how he created his hit song “Attention” by using electronic music

Electronic music is by far my favorite genre of music. I love how it can be created with just the click of a few buttons and how each song can have a different meaning to one person than it does to another. There are so many different beats that go into electronic music that you often can get lost while listening to it. It truly is a fascinating genre. Included is an article on how one of my favorite artists TroyBoi produces his music.

Personally, I enjoy listening to real live instruments instead of machine created sounds. However, I do find it cool how you do not need any instruments to create music anymore. That being said, electronic music consists of electronic musical instruments. Making music with instruments can get real expensive if you are just starting out, but electronic music allowed musicians and producers to create a song for a cheaper price. Electronic music then lead to the influence of new bands and other genres such as electro-funk and early hip hop. The article also talked about the rise of the genre and how it came to be.

I’ve never been interested in this genre in music. I’ve always thought that is very digital and not “real music” like those played with acoustic instruments and recorded in a recording studio. It was very surprising to read that Electronic music dates as early as the 19th century. Before reading, I thought that it was more modern.

The introduction of electronic music became very popular with younger kids, gamers, and teens. While, i personally believe there is no talent in performing the music live, I do believe that it does take talent in order to come up with beats to a song that captivates an audience. This genre of music also paved way for its use in pop music everywhere. Now, other genres could take advantage of the technological advancements in the industry.

Electronic music is probably my least favorite genre of music. But there are whole music festivals hosted for this genre and a whole community that loves it! I think its funny how computer devices are their instruments.

Electronic music is a new front runner in a lot of the music industry bringing raves to life and DJs to just perform such as marshmallow. Although im not a huge fan of it I know tones of work is put into it and the elements of all the beats and sounds that have to be created to make the perfect pitch. I was surprised to learn that electronic music was developed in the 19th century. I assumed that it began a lot later. I also didn’t realize that this music was just music that incorporated electronic instruments. I thought it referred to the EDM music genre.

In my opinion, electronic music will always be one of the greatest inventions ever. Its very flexible when creating beats and certain sound waves, its very compacted and can easily be transported from different places. It was developed in the 19th century, and began to expand more throughout the music industry, many artists use it in order to create there music. its very fascinating and will soon grow larger throughout the century later on.

I think electronic music is one of the most interesting types of music there is. There is just so much that you could do with it. In the last decade, a number of software-based virtual studio environments have emerged, with products such as Propellerhead’s Reason Ableton Live finding popular appeal. Some tools provide viable and cost-effective alternatives to typical hardware-based production studios, and thanks to advances in microprocessor technology, it is now possible to create high quality music using little more than a single laptop computer.

I always point to daft punk as the pioneers of electronic music. The synthesizer became the next tool that would level the playing ground and allow new genres and artist reach the forefront of the industry. I linked below an interview with daft punk and how they used the synth to pretty much create a new era of music and with last weeks midi controller anyone could harness the sound of the synth.

Electronic music consist of electronic musical instruments, digital instruments, and music based technology. During the beginning of the new type of music, many instruments had not been considered musical. This type of music was being introduced during the 1950s in America before it caught on. In the 1970’s technology had improved and allowed them to use different instruments. The turntable, polyphonic synthesizer, and electric drums allowed new music to be created. In the 80’s more technology was created and allowed even more new music to be created which led to its popularity. Attempts in the 1920’s and 30’s to change how music sounded including pitch, amplification, and something for performers. In the 50’s tapes were helpful in creating music and allowing the new type of music to be published on it. In During the 60’s we can see a greater popularity of electronic music as a whole. Towards the later years in the 60’s many musicians were using electronic instruments to help define their music. The Beatles, 1966 recording, “Tomorrow Never Knows” was known to push in a new era in the world of electronic music in pop and rock. During the 80’s we can see how the software platform MIDI made the world electronic music that much easier. It revolutionized how people could crate, share, and edit electronic music. Synthesizers were used to easily create and miniplate the music artists were trying to create. There are two different types of synthesizers, the keyboard synthesizers and digital synthesizers. MIDI changed the way artists could control exactly how they wanted their music. We can see the trend with EDM music from the 80,’s 90’s, and present era. We can see that now computer programs and software are readily available to the public so they can create their own electronic music. People have the power to easily create whatever they want and produce tracks of music they put together using a single laptop and making amazing content.

Electronic dance music, in my opinion, will be discussed as a revolutionary point in music in the future. From it’s audience of casual listeners to the surging rave crowd we see today, electronic music demonstrates a striking moment in music evolution. Electronic music really portrays the tools we have readily available to a wide range of artists, including amateurs to those headlining festivals. I was never a big fan of electronic music but it was still interesting to learn some stuff from this Wikipedia page. I always thought electronic music was a something that discovered in the modern times we live in but I was very surprised that it has roots all the way back in the early decades of the 1900s. It was also coll to read about it’s rising popularity today.

It is so astonishing how diverse how world is. I really like this kind of music which makes you freely express yourself because there is not a specific way of dancing it. Electronic music can be considered as revolution in the history of music because it was something that was completely different from what was already out there. You don’t really need an instrument, you just need program and you will be able to produce whatever sound you want to produce. The history of electronic music is really fascinating!

Before reading this article, i would never have imagined that “electronic music” was introduced so long ago. Sure it wasnt the same as it is now, but it is still a very interesting fact. EDM in my opinion has a certain power to it that very few other genres possess. Whenever EDM music start splaying, it makes you want to get up and start dancing. That is one of the reason EDM festivals are so vastly popular all around the world.

Its funny how electronic music was created at a university in the 50s/60s for studying purposes. It was obviously not very popular at the time but I feel its creation brought a huge impact on music as a whole. The creation of electronic music paved the road for rock and pop and future genres as well.

with the internet becoming popular its amazing to me that music has evolved with it, spawning it’s own genre in electronic music, mostly relying on completely digital sounds to make it’s unique sound. electronic music shows that as we evolve in technology and such, music will also evolve with us and change to suit our needs.

Even though i hear musicians sometimes trash electronic music since its not as “original” as playing an actual instrument such as a guitar, i can still appreciate the type of creativity put behind the genre and it’s music. Though I’m more into rock, electronic music will hold a special place in my heart. More about electronic music:

Its kind of mindblowing that Electronic music was possible in the early to mid 1900’s . It seems like a concept that wouldn’t have been possible until like the 80’s with hair metal bands. I guess it makes sense since now we have so much understanding and development on the subject that its become a major genre in mainstream music. It even has whole festivals dedicated to it like electric daisy and tomorrow land.
